Money is always ultimate?

Money — My Perspective: How Life Changed My Views on Financial Freedom

A personal reflection on how growing up changes your relationship with money, happiness, and life’s expectations.

When I Was Young and Idealistic

Years back, when I was a kid, I used to tell my parents, “We don’t need money to be happy.” They would gently explain that money plays a crucial role in our day-to-day life — we need it for food, comfort, and basic needs. And every time, I would argue, “We don’t need that much money to be happy.” My parents would just smile and laugh it off.

Looking back now, I realize how innocent and idealistic those thoughts were. However, life has a way of teaching us lessons we never expected to learn.

Right Now — A Shifting Perspective

The Reality Check

I still believe a small part of what I used to say, but a lot has changed over the past few years — maybe even in the past few weeks. The more I live, the less I believe in that old idea.

Yes, I can limit my needs and live fairly comfortably with my salary. But society’s pressure and expectations feel far beyond what I can achieve in the next couple of years. Sometimes it becomes stressful. Even the one thing I truly want feels like it’s slipping away from my hands, and it hurts to realise there’s not much I can do about it.

The Quote That Hit Home

Recently, I was reminded of this quote:

If you can’t solve the problem with money, maybe you don’t have enough money.

It’s subjective, of course. Nevertheless, it made me think deeply about the role money plays in solving life’s problems. Furthermore, it challenged my childhood beliefs in ways I never anticipated.

What I’m Learning About Money and Life

The Balance Between Needs and Wants

Money isn’t everything, but it’s not nothing either. It’s about finding that balance between living within your means and working toward the life you truly want. Sometimes, that balance feels impossible to achieve.

Accepting What I Can’t Control

Right now, worrying doesn’t help — especially when so much is out of my control. What I can control are my actions and this present moment. I can only hope that time will bring the answers I’m looking for.

Moreover, I’m learning that financial stress is something many people in my generation face. It’s not just about being smart with money — it’s about navigating a world where expectations often exceed reality.

Moving Forward With Perspective

This journey has taught me that my childhood perspective wasn’t entirely wrong — happiness doesn’t solely depend on money. However, financial stability does provide the foundation to pursue the things that make life meaningful.

As I continue to grow and learn, I’m discovering that money is a tool, not the end goal. It’s about what we do with it and how we balance our dreams with reality. Similar to the lessons I learned from reading Wings of Fire, success is a journey that requires patience and persistence.

If you’re also navigating the complexities of money, career, and life expectations, know that you’re not alone. Feel free to reach out and share your own experiences and perspectives.

(P.S.: I couldn’t post earlier because of a busy schedule and a tough time. See you next month.)
