The Day My Story Got Me in Trouble
Sometimes the most unexpected moments teach us the most valuable lessons about communication and cultural sensitivity.
When Everything Changed in Class
It was one fine day, everything was going as usual, but tables turned when my professor got nothing left to teach in that class and wanted us to do something productive. As far as I remember, after some discussion, she asked me to tell a story in front of everyone.
However, little did I know that this simple request would lead to one of the most memorable learning experiences of my college life. Furthermore, this moment would become a crucial part of my personal growth journey.
The Story I Told
Long, long ago—so long ago nobody knows how long—there lived a young, growing musician who mastered the skill of playing a guitar-like instrument.
He traveled around towns and villages, showcasing his talent to the people living there, and they offered him what they could in return. As days passed, this young man’s parents asked him to get married. Our guy gave it serious thought and finally said yes.
Soon, the parents found a suitable alliance for our protagonist from a town far away. After a few weeks, the young man married the young lady.
During their wedding night, the young man showed his musical skills to his wife. The young lady praised him for handling the guitar so elegantly.
The Growing Tension
Days passed, and every day the man played guitar for his wife. She told him she had never seen someone play guitar like he did. However, she began feeling neglected because he spent most of his time with the guitar instead of her, and worse, he would leave her alone whenever music events came up.
One day, people from a town that was two weeks’ travel distance away heard about our musician’s skill and called him for a performance, offering him huge pay. Our guy felt proud and conveyed this happy news to his wife.
The Divine Intervention
As soon as she heard the news, she felt a thunderstorm in her heart. When her husband went outside, she sat in the prayer room and prayed to God wholeheartedly. The goddess appeared before her and asked what she wanted.
The young lady complained to the goddess that her husband wasn’t spending time with her and explained everything. The goddess listened and asked what she wanted. The young lady proposed to be converted into the guitar so that her husband would spend time with her all the time.
Subsequently, the goddess agreed and granted her wish.
Hours passed, and the musician entered the house with happiness, shouting toward the room, “Honey, honey, where are you? Look at the new guitar I bought for the show!”
The old guitar string snapped with a loud twang.
The Unexpected Interruption
Well, I couldn’t finish the story in my class because when I mentioned “wedding night,” my teacher asked me to step down from the platform and meet her in her cabin during the interval.
I thought I was in serious trouble. My heart was racing as I wondered what I had done wrong with what seemed like an innocent folk tale.
The Learning Moment
Fortunately, I was saved that day when I met my soft skills instructor. She explained that even though it’s completely normal to talk about marriage and related topics, I should be more mindful of the setting and context when sharing stories in an academic environment.
She advised me to apologize to the staff for any unintended discomfort. So, I took her advice and said sorry for my actions.
Thanks to both staff members, I learned a new lesson apart from the lesson I learned from the story itself.

The Story’s Message
Looking back, the story itself carried a beautiful message about love, sacrifice, and the unintended consequences of our desires. The wife’s transformation into the guitar represents how love can sometimes make us lose our identity, while the snapping string suggests that forced closeness might not be the answer to relationship problems.
Sometimes the most valuable lessons come from the most unexpected situations—both from the stories we tell and the reactions they provoke. Similar to what I learned from reading Wings of Fire, inspiration and growth often come from the most unexpected sources.
